Our dogs:
We have a Vizsla and an Appenzell.
The Vizsla, Chief, will devour you (even rudely) with his exuberant welcome.
The Appenzell, Jinger, is one of the Swiss Mountain Dog breeds.  She is very much a farm dog and her first and clear job is to protect her herd / farm.  Our vet best described her temperament as
“stranger – danger”.  Anything / anybody new to the farm she considers a threat to her farm until she knows otherwise.  To anyone new – she will bark and not greet you with open arms – until she knows you are safe.  As with any dog of this type let her get to know you.  She is not an attack dog but will make a strangers presence known with her barking.  Simply let her get to know you by your actions.
